10 Ways To Help You Survive Corona virus - Part 2

Updated: May 7, 2020

Hello everyone! 🌼

Welcome to the second part of my most recent blog post where I will be sharing my final 5 tips and tricks that are helping me whilst this Covid-19 virus is around! I hope you are all doing well at this time, enjoying implementing some of my suggestions from part 1 of this series and taking care of your lovely selves!🌼

As stated in the first part of this series I am not a healthcare professional, I do not have any licensing stating that these tips and tricks are the perfect way to do things, I am simply sharing some of my opinions and things that I am doing that seem to be working for me at this time! By all means if these methods don't work for you or are triggering you in anyway please don't do them as they are made to help and I would not wish to cause anyone distress in this time.

With that being said, this part will contain different things such as recommendations, meal plans, organisation tips and how to continue to be Eco friendly at this time!🌼

🌼 Recommendations - Firstly I have a lot of recommendations that I simply can not cram into this blog post so here are a few little ones that will help keep you entertained during this time!

My first recommendation has to be Podbean. Podbean is an app I recently downloaded for free, it has so many podcasts available, not to mention audio books and lots of different genre things for anyone and everyone. You can even follow a podcast that I am following, which helps you to learn new languages and skills! All of the books and episodes from podcasts are available to download which means you can listen to them anywhere and offline.

This is honestly an amazing app, I am currently listening to the Harry Potter books on the app and they are truly helping me at this time, as they help to fill any empty space when cleaning or DIY-ing or even in the bath! 🌼

Secondly, I have to recommend some of my favourite Youtubers;

🌼 Schmoxd - His channel has a variety of videos showing you how to create and learn new skills and he makes some crazy amazing things that are simply so inspiring.

🌼 White Cottage Company - Mary is an amazing DIY person, she makes and alters so many things to create a gorgeous white farm house chic vibe and has some great tips and tricks on making great things

🌼 Sedona Christina - She is a great Eco friendly, Low waste Youtuber that helps with the everyday no waste approach to life, she has so many suggestions and videos on being zero waste and completely understands the struggles we go through in trying to be zero waste.

🌼 Shane Dawson/ Shane Glossin - Now there aren't many people that don't know Shane or his absolutely iconic videos, as he is currently going through a creative slump, I love going back and watching his old videos where he is completely creative and getting inspired by my long time favourite.

My third recommendation would be a good old clear out - Now I know a lot of tips and waste disposal places are currently closed, however there are still homeless shelters and stations where you can go that people need clothes and things. In my last post I touched loosely on cleaning and how important it can be, but since I have also been DIY-ing I have been moving around a lot of clutter and being able to identify what I realistically need has really been helping so I would also highly recommend giving things a clean but getting rid of any unnecessary junk that may be harbouring germs or dust as these are not what we need!

Another thing would be to NOT stockpile, I know a lot of you in quarantine are like "What the hell do you mean?" I am simply saying buy as much as you would need, do not go crazy. A lot of people are buying everything and anything they can, but be realistic buy what you will need for a month, not what you think you may need. There are lots of people who already have waste and a lot of people who have nothing right now. By ensuring your using the things you already have and making sure that you waste as little as possible it will make sure everyone has enough food or materials for this time.

🌼 Meal Prep - This ties into my last point of only buying what you need, a lot of people are buying lots of food that they will struggle to make decent meals out of.

I highly recommend visiting the "White Cottage Company" Youtube channel where she has videos on meal prep, how to make menus and so on. In doing this you can freeze your meals and see how many you may need to last you for say a month. Another person I really love when it comes to meal prep is "The Pioneer Woman" Now although she is american and a lot of her ingredients can be different than here in the UK, the way she plans meals can still be reflected in what we do. I'll put her link below in the "Resources" part.

My family has recently grown to 5 people in my household so I understand the fear in not having enough food to feed everyone, but if you've got a meal plan things will run a lot smoother. You could work out what meals you'd have each day, spend a whole day preparing meals and then when it comes to it you just have to put it in the oven when you want it. It's a small thing that can really make a difference.

🌼 Organisation - I touched on this in my last post, but I didn't really go into full depth about the process of organisation. Obviously having a diary helps you to organise and writing a "To Do List" for the week is a start, but actually doing these things and organising when you will is a whole other thing. With worrying about family and wanting to get as much done as possible with being given all this time in doors it is important to use the time effectively.

If you organise your day into sections it helps to keep track of what your doing and ensuring your not spending all day worrying. You may want to organise what time you'll go shopping or when you will call a relative, to ensure that there will be no excessive contact between you and other people.

Obviously you can organise in other ways too, organising your kitchen and home effectively can ensure that you are using up the last of things before starting others and this is really important at the moment, with there being a shortage of a lot of things I know that in my household if someone sees something they want to eat or use it will get opened, even though use by dates aren't that long. This results in things being shoved to the back of cupboards and not being used. By using everything we have that is already open or needs using it also means we are being more Eco friendly as not as much food or products will be thrown away, therefore we are also being mindful of nature. Even if we are all a little pissed with nature right now for unleashing this virus onto us.

🌼 Pets - It is important that we are thinking of our pets when we are focusing on being safe with Covid-19. I personally did not think of the impact this could have on my dog, I was worrying what he would eat as he does have a delicate digestive system and what I would do if he ran out of food. So I ensured I did buy an additional crate on top of his food, but that was only if there was plenty on the shelf, in places where there wasn't much I simply took the usual amount as I would hate to think I would be starving someone else's animal.

You can also take care of them during this by ensuring when they have been out for walks you wash their paws properly and dry them. If they came into contact with another dog or a person, simply wipe them down with a dog wipe to ensure that any germs that may be on their fur are removed and wipe them down with a towel. This then ensures that the germs are on the towel and can go straight in the wash, rather than being transferred on surfaces that you will be touching or that could spread germs. Obviously there is no need to completely wash your dog in shampoo every time they go out as this is not recommended very often as it is not good for the dogs coat or skin, but by using things such as a wipe it just helps to remove that layer of dirt.

You may also choose to put a layer of paw wax over their paws, this just helps to coat the paws and ensure that no germs will get deep in the paws, whilst also replenishing them and keeping them soft so they don't crack.

It may also be necessary to - if you are going into quarantine - explain your situation to your vet to ensure you have the adequate flea and worming medicine for your dog or cat, as they will still be venturing into your garden and can still catch things from being outside. I would also advise against having a dog walker as they usually take more than two dogs at a time, meaning if they have any germs or bacteria on their fur and your dog is playing and rolling around with them, they may transfer the virus via simply touching.

🌼 Being Eco Friendly & Efficient - I have already touched on some small ways to be Eco friendly at this time, but there are so many methods and ways to be even more Eco friendly during this process.

As Corona virus is still very active, I have noticed a lot of people going out in cars and not walking about, I understand you don't want to be exposed to the germs that may be around but it has been stated many times that aslong as your not touching the germs directly, then your eyes, mouth or face, you should be ok. It is also note worthy that cars still have heaters and air con that bring air in from outside, I know they have filters but there is evidence to suggest that if smells can get in so can multiple germs and air pollution.

So if your only going a short distance I urge you to continue to think of what pollution is doing to the planet and try your best in keeping your carbon footprint as small as possible.

I am in no way perfect when it comes to being more Eco Friendly, I constantly regret buying things because of the waste they produce and due to my disabilities nearly always take the car somewhere, but if I can avoid it I most certainly will.

There is also the clear effect we are having on the planet at this moment. Yes folks, toilet paper. There are so many "Eco Friendly Warriors" That claimed to be zero waste and as soon as this virus hit. Boom! They were using toilet roll as though it had been given for free. If you are blowing your nose please consider using rags or handkerchiefs, they can be washed on a high temperature wash and this will kill all germs, which may be better as the germs are then not sitting in the bin growing and just being left within the rubbish.

Also by not flushing using an excessive amount of toilet tissue it means that the germs aren't being put into our water systems, I know the water is filtered and made to drink, but the thought of so many germs being pumped into our water does put me off a little.

Another way of being Eco friendly at this time is DIY creating your own antibacterial hand wash and cleaning products, there are so many little hand sanitiser bottles that are being used and thrown away, by creating your own you can buy larger containers and create as much as you need at one time ensuring that nothing is going to waste. It also gives you the chance to re-use any bottles you have rather than them ending up in land fill! There are some amazing recipes online and it only takes a few products.

And that is it! Those are my top 10 few suggestions for surviving this Corona virus and keeping as busy and grounded as we can without getting anxious.

As always, thank you for reading - I hoped you enjoyed! Feel free to leave a comment, like or reach me on social media where I will be sharing lots of different things to watch and do during this period! 🌼

I hope you all have a lovely day,

🍁 Stay smiling
