10 Ways To Help You Survive Corona virus - Part 1

Hello everyone! 🌼

This post is going to be a 2 part post where I share my top few tips and tricks that have been helping me whilst staying indoors during this time. As we all know Covid - 19 is a very serious virus that a lot of people will get and suffer with and it has even become life threatening in some cases. I understand that my tips and tricks may not work for everyone, but I thought I would share them for you to read and hopefully try for yourself!

These two posts will cover things from taking the proper precautions with Covid-19 to meal prep and still being super Eco efficient and friendly at this time! 🌼

I in no way claim to be a healthcare professional and recommend looking up advice for yourselves as many different countries are recommending different precautions, this blog post just encapsulates a few of the things I am doing and that I feel comfortable with. So lets get started!

🌼 Proper Precautions & Protection - I realise this one sounds little like a sex ed class, but I promise you it is not, it is very important! As for the proper precautions, I know different governments and different areas are recommending different things so these are just some of the suggestions I have and some things I have read and seen that I think are really good in terms of germ prevention and protection for us.

First off, masks - I can not stress enough that so far (As far as i'm aware) There have been no studies that actually prove the use of masks actually stop any germs from getting through or that they will prevent corona. However, if you feel better in yourself wearing a mask, by all means do so, but it is not a necessary form of protection against this virus.

Social distancing has been put in place which, honestly isn't going to affect me as i'm generally not a very social person, I am more than happy to sit with Netflix all day and just snuggle up with a blanket. Seriously, the Winchester may as well be my home right now!

I understand some people not wanting to go ahead with the social distancing but really it is something we should all be doing to the best of our ability. I understand for some of us who have to go to work and take public transport may not be able to do social distancing, but any precautions you can take will make an incredible amount of impact in stopping the Corona virus from spreading.

Anyone who's lungs are fully grown are at risk of getting this virus, just because you are young does not mean you definitely wont get it, and even if you don’t think you will get it, there is still a chance you can pick it up from a hard surface an spread it to someone else! Please be mindful of others as well as yourselves in this time.

I would like to say I have followed all the precautions perfectly, but honestly I haven't been. I hate washing my hands, yes it sounds gross, but not to an unsanitary level, I hate having wet hands, so to have been washing them everyday, all day and using antibacterial and wipes...Has been killing me a little. A lot of people have opted for using gloves, however you still have to remember just because the germs won’t touch your skin does not mean you wont still spread it from surface to surface. It is said that it will survive for up to 72 hours on a hard surface and 48 hours on a soft surface, such as clothes, sofa’s and cloths. In saying this after you use a cloth to wipe down any surface it should go on a high temperature wash to kill any existing germs anyway!

I'm sure these things were all things you have heard before but taking consideration when using these precautions will help you and others. This is a time for us all to help each other, not just protecting ourselves.

🌼 Planning - In the new year I made a resolution to use my diary, and last week I really neglected it, which resulted in me missing almost every instagram post and even lacking in preparation for a blog post. Yes safe to say I should keep up to date with it.

Whether its bullet journaling, a diary or even a daily planner or calendar, planning around this time is really helping me achieve the little goals I want to whilst remaining dealing with all of the commotion over the virus. I have been writing occasions, Instagram post schedules, blog schedules, appointments, tracking my spending and so on through my diary.

At the beginning I made a little key with different colours for different things, for example, the days I need to post on Instagram are highlighted in orange, where my blog post day is highlighted in pink and birthdays in blue. This just helps me recognise what I have to do in the coming days and schedule other things to suit.

Obviously I understand to some people instagram posts and blog posts are at the end of their list in respect to the virus, but for me it is one of the little ways I can remain in control and make myself feel better about my situation. I also like to keep track of my dog’s flea and worm treatment, when he will need it, ordering it in advance and so on.

Keeping track of things, even if its programs you've watched, any exercise, writing that you remembered to do your skincare routine, you can look back at the end of the week and see what has worked and how. It has really helped me, with tracking what I've been spending and doing when, it helps me see when I also feel more creative and not. For example I can see I always work better towards the end of the week than the beginning.

🌼 Connecting With Nature - I honestly love being out in the fresh air, not necessarily out of my home, because I hate going out in public, but I love being in the garden. Since my garden is big enough to go out and not be too close to a neighbour it means I can continue gardening, but a lot of people don’t have this privilege. So I have a couple of tips that help bring the outside in during this time.

Whether you're in quarantine or simply don’t want to risk catching any germs, it is completely understandable and I really hope these help you feel connected to nature still! I personally am not religious but a family member of mine is Pagan and I know to her being connected with nature is going to be very difficult if she becomes ill so these few little ways should help!

The first one being light! We've got to get those windows open (If we are in a safe distance from people) letting new air in will also bring a clean and fresh feeling through the home, helping us feel lighter in ourselves and fresher. I personally have been keeping my net curtains open and my curtains open in my bedroom all week to let all of the daylight in and as much light in at night too, this helps me feel replenished and inspired to start the day!

Another way to bring the outside in is to harvest some greenery and dry it, dried flowers and plants are a great way of inviting the outside in. My windowsill is full of alive plants that I've taken cuttings from or bought from the local shops, this burst of greenery has personally helped me feel so much closer to nature and is also replenishing my air making it feel cleaner and less stuffy.

Bird feeders are also another one, if you hang them near a window or on a table outside, seeing the birds flying around and feeling a breeze through your window will really help you to appreciate the nature around you. These things are all really simple things we take for granted on a day to day basis but they will make you appreciate your situation so much more.

I also have a salt lamp that I really love to use, it has a little pot in the top for essential oils, I really love putting some orange peel or lemon peel in there as it smells so so nice when the lamp is on and gives a fresh fragrance to the room, which is so nice when you've been inside all day!

🌼 Keeping Hobbies Alive - With the crash of this virus I also found that creatively I have never felt so much in a slump, but it has been an opportunity for me to stay in and focus on developing my hobbies further and acquiring new skills that I didn’t think I would have time for.

Well, if your anything like me you will buy things you one day hope to DIY and you will hoard things over and over until you run out of room and I can not tell you how glad I am to be made to stay indoors because it means I HAVE to do these projects now. Staying busy at this time is something we all need to do, if we are left to overthink about things and watch news reports all day, we will worry so much it will take over our lives and diminish the quality of life we have more so than it already is.

Whether you've been meaning to paint that wall with a second coat, put up a new pair of curtains or even clean up that mess you made a few weeks ago. Keeping busy is imperative. Myself I have been DIY upcycling a set of 4 drawers for in my bedroom, just to hold some essentials such as hand creams, bath bombs and so on. I have sanded it down, stained it, created a mosaic on the front and painted some handles to go with it.

I know you may not feel like it right now and creatively you may not be inspired to do things, but even if you sand the surfaces and prepare them to become something gorgeous it is something to do rather than dwell on the virus keeping you inside and then feeling bad because you did nothing in that time. I'm in no way saying you need to do something all the time, but this is the best time to invest in your hobbies.

I have been learning how to create things with clay and doing more artwork, learning new things may not be possible for everyone but if you wait for my recommendations later on you will find some pretty good things that may just give you some creative inspiration for your time inside!

🌼 Self care - It is important whilst we are taking care of others to take time for ourselves. It is easy to become anxious and scared with the current situations and taking a little time for us can make the world of difference against the panic we may face.

Whether its taking time to do a face mask at night whilst watching the TV or listening to an audio book or podcast whilst doing yoga. Taking time to ourselves will make a difference. Which also brings me to - Cleaning. It is important as much as we are using hand sanitiser and trying to keep ourselves clean, what we clean the spaces around us.

No I do not mean we need to antibacterial wipe every surface, I mean mentally. A messy room can impact us completely by making our space and mind feel cluttered and fuzzy headed, by having a clear space it ensures that we are taking time to better ourselves and our environment. Whether this is an actual clean, a toxins cleanse or a digital cleanse. It can also mean de-cluttering files. I am the worse for this I almost never go through my files and de-clutter them even though I really should. It also shows that by doing a small amount of cleaning it helps us to focus the mind on tasks and feel more positive about our outlook.

Self care can also be things like, taking an hour to game, pamper yourself, watch that program you've been meaning to, or even to have time with family and friends. To do something that you have been wanting to.

I know all of these things seem really simple but they can make the world of difference if and when you get to do them. I hope you are all keeping safe at this time and are focusing your energy in positive ways. 🌼

There is a link below to the BBC Future website that I have gathered some information from and it is a very nice read without being stressful. It is also informative and has a lot of precautions and methods we can take against Corona virus. Please all be safe and kind to others.

As always, thank you for reading - I hoped you enjoyed! Feel free to leave a comment, like or reach me on social media where I will be sharing lots of different things to watch and do during this period! 🌼

I hope you all have a lovely day,

🍁 Stay smiling
