🌿 This piece is part of a larger collection of extracts, inspired by “Creative Writing” by Eva Katz. This particular extract was written by me inspired by the picture below, created by the amazing artist Jean Jullien. Enjoy!

“Marvin, do you have to? I mean, don’t you have a smaller camera?” She grumbled under the shadow of her voice, avoiding any further embarrassment.
“Honestly, sometimes you just - This is so humiliating” She continued as he lost himself in the glass lens of his camera, creating the immaculate illusion of perfection in his bowl.
His stare only intensifies through the extending lenses, adjusting it back and forth to the perfect zoom, whilst chuckling heartily at his wife's insistent jabs.
"Critiquing was something that must be treated with the utmost respect darling, the chef prepared a bowl of art for us to enjoy, and it shall only be shown through the most beautiful photograph."
The dishes felt the roll of her eyes as she held her tongues desired response and two words would go unheard by Marvin.
"Marvin" She sighed as she had on many occasions. "Please, I don't want to ask you again, this is ridiculous. You asked me to this meal to sit staring through your stupid camera. Why can't we ever just go out for a meal without you dragging your work along and that bloody camera? Just once."
However, her utterances fell deaf on his misunderstanding ears as he zoomed deeper into his bowl of perfectly cooked, dewy noodles and freshly steamed veg.
"Darling, you simply don't understand" His eyebrow took a shift to her direction.
'Finally!' She thought. 'Some recognition' But again, she would be wrong.
"This is my life, the beauty in photography, this one photo to accompany my thoughts on this dish, it would make or break the chef. It's what keeps our house. Our home." His words rang sharp with her as they sat, separate on a date for two.
But that was the end of it. She picked up her fork and dove into her noodles, admiring the food from her taste buds as he continued, admiring it through the glass lens that sat between them both.
